Lawn Care: Reel Mower, Grass Catcher and Grass Shears

Lawn care here is for the grass around the vegetable garden: a push reel mower that runs without a cord or battery, a grass catcher that fits it, and battery grass shears for trimming lawn edges.

The lawn also feeds the garden. Our cauliflower guide follows University of Minnesota Extension with a three to four inch mulch of weed-free straw, or grass clippings from a lawn with no weed killer on it, to help hold weeds back. Our turnips guide uses the same three to four inch layer of untreated clippings or straw to cut down on weeding. Keep clippings from any lawn treated with a weed killer out of the vegetable beds.
