As for its appearance, the name says it all. The dark green rind is covered with small yellow specks (stars) and commonly also will have at least one large yellow blotch (moon). The leaves also have yellow specks. But where the looks of this melon attracts attention, it is the rich flavor of the bright red flesh that has folks coming back for more, not overly sweet and like many 'old-style' watermelons best with a bit of salt.
