Lettuce Seeds, Speckles Butterhead

Like the leaf variety Freckles with its bronze red "freckles" on a medium green leaf, Speckles is a Butterhead variety with a similar coloration pattern but featuring Lime Green leaves with a bright red speckle. The plant forms a tight Bibb-like head with the heart blanching to a yellow-green like most butter lettuces. This heirloom variety from the Amish also has a nice refined taste, of the buttery nature along with its type and heritage. While growers with serious issues with Downy Mildew and other pests may need more modern varieties, this heirloom is a proven performer in favorable conditions. The butterheads are medium size.
