Artichoke Seeds, Violetto Chioggia

We grow this on our farm to sell both Artichokes for eating and mature "flowers". We can heartily recommend for both purposes. We made more money selling the flowers than the artichokes the last three years! Overwinters well in both mild climate like here in California and colder climates too. Nearly spineless purple artichoke with deep purple coloring and somewhat pointed shape, especially when young. Exceptional, flavorful and a bit more hardy for northern growers. Often called the 'Artichoke of the Aristocrats' in Italy. Pickled small they have no choke. Typical of the older heirloom artichokes, some plants will exhibit 'wild' characteristics. Untreated seed.
