Also known as 'Toonas Makino', the Shishigatani pumpkin is one of the 'kyo yasai', a traditional vegetable from the Kyoto region. The fruit are uniquely shaped, like a bottle gourd and are ribbed and very warty. They are dark green, turning to tan at full maturity. The fine-grained flesh has a delicious nutty flavor.
