HEAD LETTUCE SEED HEAD LETTUCE SEED

Crisphead lettuce usually comes in large, round, tightly packed heads of pale green leaves. These are actually better referred to as 'Batavian' and 'Iceburg' types. Though crisp, succulent and wilt-resistant, most crispheads have a rather neutral flavor. French crispheads however are more loose centered, with an abundance of color, and have much more flavor and texture than the Batavian and Iceburg types. Iceburg lettuce is called such as years ago growers in California shipped it under large amounts of ice. It is truly a variety of crisphead lettuce and can vary. Unfortunatley commercial growing has produced many bland icebergs, while there are many fine iceburg lettuces among heirlooms.
