Turnip Seeds, White Egg

Turnip Seeds, White Egg
This is a classic mid-western Turnip that is moderately large and round. It is best harvested at a diameter of 2.5-4", similar to Purple Top White Globe Turnip. It has mostly globe shaped roots with a white color skin and flesh. The flavor is similar to Purple Top White Globe, but sweetens up even more when exposed to cold temperatures. This variety is an heirloom. It is less uniform than modern hybrid turnips, but is excellent for multiple pickings, for feeding to humans and animals and for wildlife. In areas lacking winter Deer forage, some people plant this variety for them to uncover in the snow. Harvest in 50 days or when roots reach 4"-5" diameter. The young green tops may be stir-fried or used in soup. Untreated seed.
