Tomatillo (Husk Tomato) Seed

Cultivation for Tomatillo is similar to that of tomatoes. Start indoors 6-8 weeks before last frost in very warm soil (80-90F), kept just moist. Once germinated, allow soil to dry slightly but don't allow the plant to wilt. After true leaves begin to develop, continue growth in moderate temps (60-70), to slow growth. Transplant outside after frost and when soil and night time temps begin to warm. Space about 18-24 inches apart.

This traditional Mexican heirloom produces a prolific bushy plant growing 3-4' tall and across, and does well in partial shade. Green 2" sweet fruits are ripe when the fruits burst through husk. Blended with hot peppers to make Mexican green sauce. Fruits have best flavor when washed with mild soap and then rinsed off thoroughly, which removes the sticky coating on the outside of the fruit.
