Corn needs warm soil (65-85F) to germinate well, in moist but not overly wet conditions. Corn is wind-pollinated, so plant in blocks of at least 4 rows. Plant seed 1 in deep, 4-8 in apart, in rows 24-26 in apart, depending on the size of the variety. Thin to 8-12 in apart once sprouted. SPECIAL NOTE: Untreated corn seed is particularly vulnerable to poor germination or failure if planted in too cool or wet conditions. Check with your local agriculture department for known pests and pest controls.
