Chicory (including radicchio) is a perennial but grown as a annual. All heading types of chicory are called Radicchio in Europe. However in the U.S. usually only the red types are referred to as radicchio . Radicchio is used in salads, fried, or grilled. Wonderful as an ingredient in Risotto.
