(GG05-BA) AGRETTI
(85 days) Also known as 'roscana' in Italy, 'liscari sativa' and 'saltwort'. Ours is the authentic strain of Italian 'Salsola Soda' and not to be confused with the common and lesser 'salsola komarovi' strain of Japan also commonly called 'land seaweed'. The whole plant is simply gathered in bunches when small and either boiled and eaten as a vegetable. Raw, it makes a really good addition to salads, slightly salty and crunchy. It is one of the highest prized sprouting greens 12" to 18" tall when mature, for salads, fresh, or in cooking. Related to chard it is very hard to come by and adds a flavorful "salty" flavor. Not a summer green and should be started early indoors or early fall for cool weather. Seed is notorious for poor germination at about 30% to 40% standard, much like Rosemary. Highly prized and expensive in gourmet markets and by chef's. Grown in Saltwater irrigated land of the Mediterrean, but will grow without salt water. This seed does not store well, so it is available for a limited time each season.
Mini-Bulk 50 grams (1.76 ounces) - $3.95

This selection was bred for heavy leaf production.
